LVKCC Members: It’s time to sign up for our annual spring flatwater paddling weekend. This year we’ll be traveling to YMCA Camp Tockwogh on the Chesapeake Bay. We’ll stay in the camp’s conference center, right on the water, eat dinners in the camp dining hall, and paddle a real mix of water – from the open bay to creeks and secluded coves.
If you are not a current member of the LVKCC go to our website www.lehighvalleycaneclub.org and join today!
Dates: May 19 to May 22.
Location: Camp Tockwogh, 24370 Still Pond Neck Road, Worton, MD. 21678. It’s about 2-1/2 hours from the Lehigh Valley
Accommodations: The conference center is a modern building with heat, a lounge and a conference room. There are five bunk rooms, each with a separate bathroom. There is a large deck outside. The conference center has coffee machine, a refrigerator, and microwave. There are also ice machines for your convenience.
Paddles: There will be options for longer and shorter paddles each day. Typically from 6 miles to as much as 12 miles for the two full days. The schedule will be adjusted if weather requires. Potential paddles include covering the open waters of the northern Chesapeake; exploring the intricacies of Still Pond; searching out the hidden pond by the Sassafras River where the lotus grows; pulling up on a beach to explore a bamboo forest, and paddling up Back Creek to the waters where the catfish lurks. Recommended boat length for the trip is 13 feet or longer.
Cost: The total cost will be divided equally among all paddlers. Best estimate is $225 per person for the weekend. This includes accommodations, dinners and some shared food. Campers will bring their own food for breakfast and lunch.
Reservations: Send a $50 non-refundable deposit per person to Linda Martin to reserve a spot. Make check payable to LVKCC and put “Spring Trip 2017” on the memo line. Deadline for reservations is May 1.
