Secretary’s Report: A motion to approve the November secretary’s report was made by Hans Wagner, and second by Eric Schweitzer.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report review and vote was deferred to the next meeting.
Membership Report: Dan Rempp recommended members use the recently updated website to pay their annual membership dues for the new membership year; November 2016 to October 2017. Or they can pay at tonight’s meeting or at the pool sessions that start this January 2017.
Webmaster’s Report: Dan Rempp gave us an update on the newly upgraded website. He had met multiple times with Dave Dawson, and Fran Drake to plan out the website features; which EnterNet then built. The website is now “optimized” for mobile device browsing. There are now new features such as the Coming Events, and Favorite Launch Sites with integrated map accessibility. The Membership Renewal page requires the user to select the “Not a Robot” as an added prompt to screen out illegitimate website entries.
For the Coming Events feature to be successful, the Meetup social media site must be used to post all official club trip/events. We also need people to volunteer to coordinate trips of different types. Dan will give the trip coordinators access to post the club’s Meetup events. He indicated the club website can display up to 10 events at a time.
Winter Pool Sessions. At Upper Bucks YMCA. Mary Giorlando indicated we have 3 people signed up for the Recreational kayak class, and 7 people signed up for the moving water class. The class information is posted on our club website. Sunday, January 8th will be the first pool session.
Mary Giorlando asked for volunteers to help with the money collection at the pool (Upper Bucks YMCA). She indicated pool volunteers receive free admission for that night.
Spring Chesapeake Sea KayakTrip 2017. May 19th through 22nd. Dave Dawson indicated this year’s trip will be based at Camp Taqua. There is launch access onsite. There will be both short and longer trips to accommodate different paddling interests. The cost estimate per person is $150 plus food costs. A deposit will be required.
Upcoming Meeting Programs. Gery Kirkner indicated the February meeting will feature Mark Line SUP, and the March meeting will feature TRR (Team River Runner).
San Juan Islands Trip. July 8th through July 15th. Gery Kirkner indicated this will include a 5 day tour around the San Juan Islands; Anacortes. The outfitter will target 3 days of kayaking in the “Orca Highway”; which increases the opportunities for sighting whales. The cost estimate is $1500/person. There is a 10% outfitter discount if paid by end of year. (Discounted rate w/b approx $899). The accommodations will be tent camping; carrying all the necessary gear and food on the kayaks. There will be no running water; bring your own. Both single and tandem kayaks will be available. Practice trips will be required for all who book this trip. So far, there are 11 attendees signed up.
Intermediate Series. No update.
Allagash River (Maine) Canoe Trip. July 20th through July 29th. Scott Douglas indicated he is still looking for others interested. The accommodations will also be tent camping; must carry all gear in the canoes. There will be 7 days of paddling. He has 4 boats committed; up to 6 boats would be ideal. Practice trips will be required. The estimated cost is $300/person. The ideal canoe size is 18 to 19 foot; however a minimum of 16 foot would be acceptable. Scott indicated if anyone wants to go, but does not have a canoe they should contact him; there is probably someone who would loan one. He needs to know to finalize the trip by the end of Jan 2017.
Madawasque Paddle. June 17th through June 23rd. Joe Bennett indicated he knows of a non-club trip; the estimated cost is $550/person. They’ll drive 4 hours to Alexander Bay, and the next day drive to Madawasque. Contact Joe for details.
