This will be an advanced intermediate kayaking class on Class III/III+ whitewater for LVKCC members only. Bring your A game! We will work on eddy turns and peel outs in small eddies, ferrying both ways and jet ferrying, boofing, attainments, catching features on the fly, and other such fun. Plan to work all the features hard all day, I usually make it last several hours, but that will depend on the group – we can always take two runs as well. If you have not previously taken a class with me, please provide a reference via email. In order to have fun you need proper gear (wetsuit minimum, drytop or drysuit preferable), a river runner kayak (I won’t kick you out if you bring a playboat, but it won’t be as fun), solid combat roll, and a willingness to try just about anything.
There really is no good place to stop for lunch, but bring snacks and water. Brews and burgers at Apple Jacks, or join the festivities at the takeout after class. Bring extra warm stuff, throwbag, pin kit and first aid kit.
Class is limited to 5 boaters plus me, unless I get other instructors to help out, then multiples of 5. I know who falls into which category…. If we get more than 10 students we will need to split the group though.
I do not recommend this class for newly minted Toh runners, but if you are really stoked for it, ask.
There is no fee for the class, but you must be a LVKCC member in good standing and you must sign a class waiver. Launch permits may or may not be required, but the rules are pretty clear that the rangers can require them if they wish. There is an alternative put in on Cabin Run, just up the road. Bring cash for the take out parking lot, I believe its $10 per vehicle.
