This is a LVKCC sponsored club event specifically tailored to help guide those who have not yet taken a trip down this Class III gem. You should be comfortable on the Lehigh Gorge (upper and lower) and have a good roll to make this fun. If your roll is sketchy, you should probably consider a sit on top. Weather will dictate proper gear, come prepared to get wet. The water is typically still warm, but the air can be quite cold. At a minimum, a wetsuit is required. Drytop or dry suit is preferable. We will not be stopping for lunch, so eat a good breakfast and leave your lunch in the car. Water bottle is recommended, snacks should be “on the go” if you want them. It will typically take 2-3 hours to get down, depending on the number of rescues we have to perform and the size of the group. Second runs are not out of the question. Note that there is a charge for parking at the official take out, and I recommend that we use that lot, so bring some money ($10 per vehicle I believe).
I will limit this trip to 5 first timers, with more multiples of 5 if I get helpers who are Toh veterans to help. You know who you are, please let the group know your status when you sign up. Helpers should bring rescue gear (pin kit, throw ropes, first aid kit). I reserve the right to split the group if it seems prudent, 10 boaters is probably as big as we can get.
There is a requirement for a Fish and Boat Commission launch permit to put in at the Park, but this has not been regularly enforced for the release. You may have to put in above the park if the rangers are enforcing. I will provide directions to the upper put in if needed.
Signing a waiver is required. There is no fee, but current club membership is required. I will bring signups for those non members who wish to join on site, but the trip is first come first served to members. I reserve the right to refuse participation to those who are not properly prepared for the trip.
