Come to the Giving Pond for a relaxing Friday late afternoon paddle. The Giving Pond is a 90-acre body of water between the Delaware River and the Delaware Canal located in Tinicum Township, Bucks County. Formerly, the Giving Pond was a sand and gravel quarry which was acquired in 2002 to become part of the Delaware Canal State Park. Only unpowered boats and electric motors are allowed on the pond making for a serene experience. It is an interesting paddle through a maze of sunken trees and around small islands, a great way to start the weekend. Wildlife is abundant, and includes many species of birds and turtles.
Your kayak must have a launch permit which can be obtained from the PA Fish and Game Commission. See the club website for a link where you can get your permit on line: http://lehighvalleycanoeclub.org/link.
This event is open only to members of the Lehigh Valley Kayak and Canoe Club so join now if you’re not already a member. http://lehighvalleycanoeclub.org/memberships
You will need your own kayak, paddle, PFD and whistle. Bring ample water and a snack if you choose. Any kind of kayak would work on this paddle. When you arrive, pull into the parking lot, bear left and go through the gate following the gravel road down to the launch area. Once you have unloaded your boat you will need to back up and park your car in either of the two parking lots provided. There is a porta potty available. If you have a wheeled kayak carrier, you may want to bring it to transport your boat so you only have to make one trip to the launch area from the parking lot. Please be ready to paddle at 4pm.
