The Power of Adaptive Paddling

Wildlands Conservancy

Thursday, March 2, 7 PM

A new movement- at least here in the Lehigh Valley- is coming to to the paddling community: Adaptive Paddling. Specialized docks and launch facilities for handicapped paddlers are being planned and one is in actual operation at Leaser Lake in Lynn Township, Lehigh County.

Want to learn more about what is going on? Would you like to get involved? Come to the next meeting of the Lehigh Valley Kayak and Canoe Club to hear George White, the man behind the Leaser Lake project.

Mr. White will be talking about the Accessible Recreation Area at Leaser Lake and the new Lehigh Valley Chapter of Team River Runner, an adaptive kayaking group which serves disable veterans and civilians.

George is the coordinator of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Team River Runner and was also the chairman of the Leaser Lake Heritage Foundation for the past 10 years. He guided the development of the Leaser Lake Accessible Recreation Area and helped design their adaptive kayak launch. George lives in Kempton, PA with his wife Wendy and their children, Kelsey and Drew.

Leaser Lake is a 540 acre park owned in part by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and in part by Lehigh County. It is named after Frederick Leaser, an American patriot who transported the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia to Allentown in 1777 for protection during the Revolutionary War.
