Scott Douglas called the meeting to order at the Wildlands Conservancy at 7:00pm. There were 29 people that attended this meeting. Scott introduced Jeff Wartluft who provided a presentation on Mira Lloyd Dock. In summary of his presentation, Mira played a key role in improving the quality of our waterways starting with the Susquehanna River. She championed the importance of sustainability and the implementation of European practices for planning open public gardens, parks, and stronger waste management controls. In the year 1901 she was appointed to the Public Forestry Commission (state Board). The momentum from her initiatives spurred the creation of the PA State Forestry Academy. Jeff’s presentation ended at 7:40pm.
Scott Douglas announced that we would take a brief break before resuming with the monthly meeting agenda. At 7:50pm Scott resumed the meeting.
Secretary’s Report: Voted to approve both the June and September minutes; with one correction noted by Linda Martin that the spring 2017 trip will be on the Chesapeake (changed “Chester” to “Chesapeake”). A motion to approve the secretary’s report was made by Larry Palmer, and second by Jim Schulte.
Treasurer’s Report: Pat Beltz presented printed reports for September 2016. She indicated that the $1500 check sent to Team River Runner has not cleared our account yet. The Checking Account ending balance was $4,284.82, and the Savings Account ending balance was $14,176.14. The Total of All Accounts amounts came to $19,135.85. A motion to approve the treasurer’s report was made by Gery Kirkner and second by Larry Palmer.
Membership Report: Dan Rempp reported we have 254 Dues Paying members representing 157 families. On Facebook we have 949 registered viewers, and 596 Meetup viewers.
Webmaster’s Report: Dan Rempp provided an overview of a proposed website upgrade per his meeting with EnterNet. For $695 they will upgrade our website presence and include mobile device recognition. He indicated this is at a significant discount; a like upgrade could cost $4,000+. Dan confirmed that we will retain our ability to edit the content, they will build 12 pages, and both our Facebook and calendar (for a calendar of events) will be integrated. He indicated our current calendar is not easy to use. We currently pay $10/month for the website “Forum”.
Dave Dawson added that we would keep certain pages including the trip “directions” that are currently stored in the Forums.
Dan Rempp requested a motion for approval. A motion to approve the website upgrade and proposed cost was made by Larry Palmer, and second by Jim Schulte.
Intermediate Series. Gery Kirkner indicated he has heard that the Tohickon release is in question; because the water level in the lake is very low. Scott Douglas indicated he will do a class the 1st Saturday of November if the release is held.
Recreational Series. Dan Rempp indicated we had 12 paddlers on his Delaware River trip.
Youth Program. There are no known other trips. They will have a snack bar at the Tohickon Release (if held).
Winter Pool Sessions. Linda Martin reported that Quakertown would host our sessions for 13 weeks for $5250. Lafayette could only do 10 weeks; the cost was not yet known at the time of this report. She indicated the security deposit was $50 last year. Scott Douglas asked for a show of hands; who wanted us to return to Lafayette, and who wanted to go to Quakertown (only 2 people raised their hand for Lafayette). A motion to approve making the deposit payment at Quakertown was made by Larry Palmer, and second by Gery Kirkner.
Larry March Slalom. Dan Rempp indicated we had 38 participants, and 52 “starts”. He indicated the event Income was $1,440, Expenses amounted to $991.99, and the resulting Profit was $448.01. Dan Rempp thanked the event sponsors.

Finger Lakes-NY, Fall Trip. Linda Martin provided a summary of the trip. The daily paddles varied; which included a passage through a canal lock. We had 11 people; all but 2 stayed at the Cayuga State Park. Some made a stop at Watkins Glen State Park. The weather was great for paddling during the day; and only rained at night.
Allagash River (Maine) Canoe Trip 2017. Scott Douglas indicated he is still looking for others interested. It will be the late July to early August 2017 timeframe. The trip will be 9 days at a minimum, including travel. The canoes must be 16 to 19 ft. Scott will schedule pre-trip sessions on Class 1 & 2 waters to prepare attendees for the trip.
Spring Chesapeake Trip 2017. May 19th through 22nd, 2017. Dave Dawson gave an overview of this upcoming event. It will be at a YMCA Camp. A boat launch is located on the property. They are targeting 24 to 48 people. The recommended kayak length is 13 ft or longer. The cost per person is expected to be $50/night with $15/meal.
Leaser Lake/TRR Program (Team River Runner). Jim Schulte indicated TRR – Team River Runner Lehigh Valley is leading the buzz in the success of this local adaptive paddling program that has had club members volunteer. They have had up to 14 attendees at an event; they had 8 attendees at the most recent event. The program started with flat water; however some will look to participate in a moving water event. Starting in November they will do pool sessions at Rodale, Cedar Crest College’s Pool to continue with winter sessions. Jim Schulte thanked all of the volunteers.
Walnutport Canal Festival. October 16th, 2016. Bob Brunda asked for volunteers. At lunch time they will start putting boats in the water. Dan Rempp indicated he is working to prepare to hold the first Walnutport Festival kayak race. They are seeking 30 paddlers to compete; $ 20 entry fee with cash awards. Boat length must be 12 ft or shorter. Race to be held on Saturday, October 15th. Registration will be at the Locktender’s House.
Meeting Location at Wildlands. Bob Brunda confirmed that our use of the room at Wildlands continues into 2017.
December Holiday Party. Lisa Aderhold indicated she contacted the Triboro Sportsmen’s Club to secure a Friday date for our December event. An informal query among the meeting attendees indicated they preferred the date of Friday, December 9th, 2016 (rather than December 2nd). It will be a catered meal.
Executive Committee Meeting. Dan and Paula Rempp volunteered to host the January meeting (January 5th, 2017) for the excutive committee meeting.
Nominations for new officers. Scott Douglas indicated his role as club president is coming to the end of his 3rd term; we will need to nominate the next president. He also indicated Sheldon Linn’s role as Member at Large is coming to the end of his 3rd term. Scott opened the floor for nominations; which resulted as follows:

Scott Douglas reminded everyone that nominations are needed for Paddler of Year.
