Little Egg, Great Bay
2018 LVKCC fall coastal kayak trip
Must contact Linda A. Martin to be approved for the Trip. Do not just show up. [masked]
This fall we’ll head east to explore two big bays behind New Jersey’s barrier beaches: Little Egg Harbor and Great Bay.
Great Bay sits in The Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Reserve, one of the least disturbed estuaries in the Northeastern U.S. Most of the New Jersey coast may be lined with beach houses and even casinos, but this area is not. We’ll paddle along shorelines and through salt marshes thick with the variety of life that thrives where freshwater meets salt.
We may also take a meander up the placid Mullica River, the main source of fresh water and nutrients for the Great Bay ecosystem. As always, there will be paddle options for everyone – sightseers and the distance-minded alike.
You can enjoy a preview of the reserve in a short video here: “https://jcnerr.org/index.html
This will be a cabin/camping weekend. Headquarters will be at Sea Pirate Campground, 148 Main St., West Creek, NJ. 08092. https://sea-pirate.com/ The campground has tent sites, full hookups for RVs and travel trailers, and a variety of cabins. If you want to reserve a camp site or cabin for yourself, please grab one ASAP while they are still available. You don’t need to go through the club. (Cabins can be reserved for 3 nights this late in the season.) We’ll arrive Friday the 21st of September and Leave Monday, the 24th. If you want to share a cabin with others, Linda A. Martin is coordinating this.
If you are planning on coming, email Linda A. Martin. [masked] so we know who and how many to expect. Also, let her know if you want to share a cabin and she will make arrangements to house you as economically as possible.
Must be a member of the Lehigh Valley Kayak and Canoe Club to attend. Must have a 14’ plus long boat.
