The meeting opened with a presentation by Tom Storm, instructor at Northeast Pa Kayak School and Jim Thorpe River Adventures guide. Tom discussed defining one’s “Perspective” when taking a trip on a new river or trying something different on a familiar trek. What’s your propensity to take risk, both real and perceived? What’s preventing you from reaching your potential and improving your paddling skills by going outside your comfort level? How well do you trust your abilities, your equipment and the people around you? These and other factors define how we approach each new kayak adventure and ultimately the experience we have before, during and after each event.

Dan Rempp reported he received notification that various individuals were unable to access the LVKCC website since it has been re-hosted by Enter.Net. Dan indicated that people using the AVAST personal security software are most likely being blocked because our site has been “blacklisted” as the result of a previous breach on the former club site. Some members also reported having similar issues when using the AVG security package. Dan is going to inquire of Enter.Net whether any solutions are available to remove these restrictions for our site.
Trip Committee Report
Sheldon Linn (in absence) issued a request for every LVKCC member to consider organizing and leading at least one trip this season in an effort to make more paddling opportunities available.
Education Committee Report
Scott Douglas mentioned he is waiting on the announcement of a few more whitewater release schedules to finalize the Summer 2018 schedule of events.
Scott also announced a first-timers Cheat River trip tentatively being planned for Easter weekend. The trip will be posted on Meet-up as details are finalized.

Dan Rempp, current acting Chairperson, indicated Bob Brunda has agreed to join the Hospitality Committee as a contributing member. The committee still needs a permanent Chairperson.

Team River Runner (TRR) Proposal
Larry Palmer, Vice-president, presented the membership with an opportunity where TRR will be hosting an Adaptive Paddling Certification Workshop in partnership with LVKCC. The total cost of the event is $6250 of which TRR has requested $1500 support from LVKCC. In return our club will sponsor a minimum of six (6) individuals to receive training and ACA National certification in adaptive paddling instruction. The following LVKCC members were identified to attend the workshop.
A motion was presented to approve the $1500 expenditure from the LVKCC treasury to support the cost of the TRR sponsored workshop.

MP – Larry Palmer MS – Paula Rempp P – Majority O – None
In lieu of the newly adopted Trip Reimbursement Policy, Scott Douglas raised concerns of the risks involved with using the LVKCC debit card for purchases related to trip reservations and other expenditures. The loss potential in the event of fraud is greater than with the use of a credit card.
A motion was made to authorize the club Treasurer to inactivate the club debit card and apply for a new credit card to be used for future payments.
MP – Scott Douglas MS – Larry Palmer P – Majority O – None
Changes to Club Bylaws
Linda Martin, President, asked the membership to review the current club Bylaws available on the website and come prepared to the next general membership meeting with any suggested changes and additions.

Nominations for Paddler of the Year should be emailed to Linda Martin and should contain accomplishments and reasons why an individual should be considered. The final candidate is selected from the list of nominees by a panel comprised of past years LVKCC Paddler of the Year recipients. The award will be presented at the club Icebreaker event scheduled for April 6, 2018.
