Paula Rempp presented the following membership statistics for 2020:
- 125 individual dues paying members
- 92 families represented
- 1,691 Facebook members
- 1,198 Meetup members
Dan Rempp reported that since the new website was created in 2017, there are less new visitors to the website each year. Facebook and Meetup have become popular, but the website still has the most information about trips, classes, launch sites, and much more.
Pool Class/ Sessions 2,3,4,5
Pat Beltz reported that the Recreational Kayaking and Open Water Kayaking classes have had positive feedback from participants. There are still 8 pool sessions left. The Moving Water Class still has a few openings available. The classes and pool sessions so far have generated about $5,000. The pool rental cost is $8,000.
American White Water sent a thank you note for the recent donation made by the club.
Long Term Committee Reports
Lil Lehigh Conservation
The park is not in favor of placing boulders in the Little Lehigh. Trout Unlimited will be contacted as a possible supporter for boulder placement.
Linda A. Martin reported that Paul Rush was very vague about when he will meet with the club. An alternative program is being scheduled for March. Contact Linda if you have program ideas.
Joanne Novak reported that the April Ice Breaker will be held at the Bath Rod and Gun Club, Friday, April 3rd. The event will be a potluck and is BYOB. There is a small allotment for door prizes. Donations will also be accepted. Door prize suggestions can be emailed to Joanne or members of the hospitality committee.
The 2020 Educational Instruction Plan is available on the website. Tentative dates are listed for the various types of kayaking. Josh Smith will be posting some intermediate trips on Meetup.
Club Trips Committee
Meetup is being used to post club sponsored trips. Participants MUST be club members to attend the event. Meetup has generated a lot of interest in trips, but no-shows are frequent. The results of the paddling survey are being reviewed. A committee will be formed to plan trips the members expressed interest in.
Series or Special Events
Sea Kayaking Trip
Dave Dawson spoke about the spring trip to Barnegat Bay, NJ, May 15-17th. There are different types of paddling in the area. Details are available for the trip on Meetup and the website. A reservation fee of $50 is needed to secure a spot. Please send the reservation fee to Linda A. Martin.
Beginners Series Trip
The Beginners Series is set for May through July.
Intermediate Series Trip
A tentative list of Intermediate trips is posted in the 2020 Educational Plan.
Larry March Slalom
The Larry March Slalom is scheduled for September 11th, 12th, and 13th. Dan will be stepping down as event coordinator after next year’s race. Any person(s) interested in the position should contact Dan Rempp.
Alternative plans will be released near the end of February. Scott Douglas will update the club at the March meeting. A letter was sent to contacts in the Army Corps of Engineers. There has been no response.
Short Term Committees
Insurance Coverage for Officers
Skip Moyer reported that Selective Insurance Company offers coverage for the club officers. The plan costs $600 annually and has a $1,000,000 coverage policy. A question was raised about other club members who frequently help the club, but are not officers. The coverage in the club’s liability insurance was also questioned. The discussion was tabled.
Sheldon Linn created and sent a survey asking club members what type of club trips they would like to participate in. There were 63 responses. The results will be presented at the March meeting.
Social Events Survey
Bob Novak is creating a survey asking club members what kind of social events they would like to attend. The survey will be sent out once it is complete.
It was brought up that the .com domain is for sale. The club currently owns the .org domain. Purchasing the .com was discussed to prevent other persons or groups from owning it, and potentially misrepresenting the club.
Stripe is being investigated as a possible payment option for classes, trips, and club dues. Meetup has a payment option, but it collects a high fee, so it will not be used.
Club policies were drafted for Club Sponsored Instructors, Pool Support Personnel, Club Bank Treasury Access, Club Bank Treasury Audits, Yearly Budget Amendments, the Contingency Fund, and Refund Policies for Club Trips and Activities. The proposed policies were read aloud and discussed by the members present. The Policy Committee will continue to develop these future policies.
Detailed job descriptions for the Executive Officer positions were given by the Policy Committee. The descriptions expand from the duties listed in the club bylaws.
A motion was made to accept the Job Descriptions as outlined.
MP – Gery Kirkner MS – Bill Smith M – Majority O – None
Budget Discussion – FY2020 open items
Bill Wagstaff donated paddles, helmets, spray skirts, and three play boats. The budget allows $2,000 for gear and equipment. The needed equipment is still being determined.
A motion was made to trade some of the club play boats for river runners, to benefit beginner whitewater paddlers.
MP- Bob Novak MS- Jake Engel M- Majority O – None
First Aid Training Equipment
The club recently purchased CPR/AED/First Aid training equipment needed for the CPR/AED/First Aid classes. $1,500 was allotted in the budget, and $1,495 was spent. Training mannequins and first aid supplies were purchased.
It was determined that the cost per person to take the class will be $50. This covers the materials used and the certification cost.
Use of First Aid Training Equipment
It was discussed that the training equipment should be used by club members, so any outside groups or individuals must first become club members before taking a class. In the past, the Wildlands Conservancy has had employees certified along with Club members in exchange for use of the building.
A motion was made for the CPR/AED/First Aid Training Equipment to be used by club members, and also by Wildlands Conservancy employees in exchange for use of the Wildlands facilities.
MP – Gery Kirkner MS – Dave Dawson M – Majority O – None
Contingency Fund Policy
A Contingency Fund Policy was presented. A minor change of the wording was suggested. An updated policy will be presented at the next meeting.
Management Liability Insurance

Lehigh River potential get-together with Conewago Canoe Club
A letter from Conewago Canoe Club (CCC) was presented. The CCC will be paddling the Upper and Lower Lehigh June 27th and 28th. The CCC will be camping at Whitewater Challengers, and encourage other group who use the Lehigh to attend a campground ‘mini fest’ June 27th. There will be music, possibly food trucks, and speakers to talk about the FEW Dam/Lehigh.
Individual members of the LVKCC are welcome to attend. A committee can be formed if a large group of LVKCC members are interested in attending.
