After a Paddle and Pot Luck meal, Linda Martin called the meeting to order and presented the following agenda:

Meeting minutes from the April Ice Breaker and General Membership meeting were posted to the website. Scott Douglas made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted.

Dave Dawson presented the April 2019 Financial Report and reported detailed receipts and expenses incurred over the last period. A summary of the report follows:
- Opening club checking account balance was $12,635.85 (+4,281)
- Expenses through April 2019 totaled $2448.33 (+1,688)
- Revenue through April 2019 totaled $1,770.00 (-2,840)
- The final club checking account balance was $11,557.52 (-646)
- The final club saving account balance was $14,212.08 (+11)
- PayPal account balance for April 2019 was $505.95 (+338)
Dave indicated the increased revenues were mainly due to the receipts from the pool sessions..
A motion was raised to accept the April 2019 Financial Report as presented.

Membership Secretary Report
Pauls Rempp presented the following membership statistics:
- 247 individual dues paying members (+43)
- 162 families represented (+24)
Dan Rempp announced that all official Club trips must be announced and scheduled using MeetUp. Anyone intending to organize a club trip or event that needs help using MeetUp or requires access to be able to post an event should contact Dan directly. Members must have successfully completed a “Guide” class to be authorized to organize Club trips/events and post Club related activities on MeetUp.
Education Committee Report
Scott Douglas announced a “Guide” class scheduled for May 11 on the Upper Lehigh. Anyone intending to participate can register on MeetUp. Members must successfully complete the “Guide” class in order to organize official Club events. Scott is also looking for helpers/rescue boaters to help with the class; anyone interested should contact Scott directly and also register for the class on MeetUp
Scott announced the following Intermediate Series events:
- June 8 – Upper Lehigh
- July 20 – Mongaup (2 tube)
- August 17 – Upper Lehigh (this will be a Beginner-Intermediate trip)
- September 20 – Savage & Lower Yough
- October 12 – Mongaup (this will be a Beginner-Intermediate trip)
- November 2-3 – Toh Fest
All Intermediate trips will be posted on MeetUp. Contact Scott if you have any questions or reservations concerning the difficulty of these events and whether you feel you are qualified to participate.
Scott indicated there were two remaining workshops/certification courses remaining in his attempt to obtain his ACA-Level 2 – 4 Instructor certification with Ben Morgan.
Eric Schweitzer provided an update on the continuation of the Beginners Series. The first event following the completion of the pool sessions took place on the Little Lehigh. The next Lower Lehigh river class in the Series is being moved to the Little Lehigh due to water levels. The remainder of the Beginner Series events have been posted on the website and registration is available on MeetUp.
Eric also announced that Tuesday night practice sessions on the Little Lehigh were starting. These are unscheduled events beginning at ~5:30 pm and open to all club members. Contact Eric if you need any information.
Finally, it was noted that Tony Broadwater hosted the first Whitewater Canoe class/practice session that was well attended and accepted. Look for future announcements on additional opportunities in the Whitewater Canoe area.
Kay Cooper Email
Linda Martin informed the membership about a controversy regarding an individual that discontinued attending a paid Pool Session class and is requesting a refund of monies paid from the club. The situation was discussed at a Special Executive Board meeting and details and amounts will be provided later. The situation also highlighted the need to develop an official refund policy for Pool Session events.
New long sleeve Club shirts have been purchased and are available for $15 each.
Larry March Slalom
Dan Rempp announced the following schedule for the 2019 Larry March Slalom.
- September 6 – course and event setup activities
- September 7 – race registration and practice day
- September 8 – race day
Volunteers and needed to help prepare and execute this year’s race. Contact Dan if you are available to help in any capacity. Also, everyone should make it a priority this year to come out and race… the best way you can Show Support for your Club.
Paddle America Club
Dan Rempp announced that the Club application to join Paddle America was submitted and accepted. Actual membership is now waiting on the Club remitting the $125 membership fee. Dan requested an invoice for the membership fee from Paddle America and has not received a reply. Dave Dawson will attempt to pay the invoice on-line using the Club credit card.
Policy for Pool Refunds
Joe Ondek agreed to develop a draft policy for Pool Session refunds to be distributed to the membership and discussed at the next full General Membership meeting in September.
Return to Lafayette
The Club agreed to return to Lafayette for the 2020 season provided we are accepted. Incidents of reported damage to the Lafayette facility are still being addressed and need to be considered if we return.
Dan Rempp announced the annual Club Swap Meet and General Membership meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6 from 5:30 pm until dusk at the Little Lehigh Parkway in Allentown. The event will include a practice paddle on the Little Lehigh and pizza dinner provided by the Club.
Unscheduled New Business
Linda Martin announced the Club is looking for a replacement for Pool Session Coordinator formally held by Mary Giorlando. This can be one or more individuals willing to take on the responsibilities of coordinating the Pool Session courses details and nightly events. Anyone interested should contact Linda directly.
Linda also read a Thank You letter received from Mary in appreciation for the Club’s Lifetime Membership Award for her many years of dedicated service to this event.
Dan Rempp provided an update from the Insurance Committee. The annual cost to obtain Executive Directors liability insurance from our current insurance provider is $600. This is in addition to the current $250 premium raising the total cost of Club insurance to ~$850-900. The insurance premium is due in December and the membership agreed to discuss the need for additional insurance at the 2020 Executive Committee Board meeting. Jim Sculte and Amy Douglas also provided information on Executive Directors liability insurance costs from other organizations where they are involved.
Bob Brunda announced the Wildlands Conservancy is organizing a “Paddle 101 – Introduction to Canoeing” event on the Walnutport Canal on Sunday, July 7. The Conservancy is providing all necessary equipment and approached Bob to ask if LVKCC would be willing to participate in the event by providing support personnel to assist their two guides organizing the event. Anyone interested in helping should contact Bob directly.
