Education Report
The Beginners Series finished the moving water portion of the class. There were 15 students at the beginning of the pool sessions. 5 students completed the last trip. Some students dropped out to work on their skills before advancing to more difficult sections of the river. Other students stopped responding to emails and trip invitations. There were scheduling conflicts for other students.
There was a survey sent to the students, and the results were positive overall.
Eric Schweitzer has led the moving water portion of the Beginners Series for five years. He has decided to step down from the position. Any interested candidates should contact Scott Douglas. Candidates should have a current ACA instructor certification.
Scott Douglas is planning an Intermediate Class before the Tohickon release in November. The date of the class has not yet been determined. The location may be the Mongaup.
Lafayette College has not committed to letting the club use the pool this winter. Alternative sites, including YMCAs will be contacted. A back up plan is to use Zoom for informational purposes and Pat Beltz’s pond for paddling.
The Education Committee will be meeting in December. Anyone can join the committee if they are interested.
Recent Events
The Thousand Islands self-supported kayak trip was a success. Six members attended. The weather was good, the food was delicious, and the camp site was nice. This may become a repeated trip. A night might be added to make it a 5 day/4 night trip.
There was a swap meet before the meeting. There was a small turn out and only a few things sold. It rained heavily during the event. A couple members participated in a paddle on the ledges before the meeting started.
Series or Special Events
Larry March Slalom
The Larry March Slalom race is cancelled for this year. The club cannot afford the required insurance coverage for the event.
