About this event
Crosswicks Creek / Abbott Marshlands Paddle is a leisurely tidal out-and-back kayak trip scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2026, launching from Bordentown Beach in Bordentown, New Jersey. The route follows Crosswicks Creek upstream toward the Watson Woods / John A. Roebling Memorial Park area, with possible limited side-channel exploration depending on conditions.
Paddlers should arrive by 10:00 AM for unloading, parking, a safety briefing, and tide review. The group will launch at 10:30 AM and paddle upstream at a relaxed pace, using rising water after the morning low tide. The expected distance is approximately 8 to 9 miles, with about 5 to 6 hours on the water, including rest and regrouping time.
The planned tide strategy is to reach the Watson Woods / Roebling Park area around 1:15 PM, rest briefly, and begin the return around 2:00 PM, before the estimated local upper-creek tide turn. The first portion of the return may be slack, mixed, or mildly against the remaining incoming tide, but conditions should improve as the falling tide develops and assists the return to Bordentown Beach.
This is not a sprint. The pace will allow time for observation, photos, regrouping, and careful navigation through shallow or narrow sections. Participants should be prepared for normal active paddling, especially early on the return leg. Expected return to Bordentown Beach is between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.
