LVKCC Open Water Kayaking Class

Are you the paddler who has moved up to a touring kayak and gear, paddled all the area lakes and is now itching to get out on some bigger water? If so, this course is for you. In Open Water Kayaking, you will learn how to safely navigate and paddle coastal waters.
In a series of three evening Zoom classes and four full days on the water, you will learn about equipment, trip planning, paddling technique, safety, navigation and how to perform self and assisted rescues.
The Zoom sessions will be held Thursday evenings, May 16, 23 and 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Two freshwater sessions will be held at Beltzville State Park June 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The two saltwater sessions will be held on Raritan Bay, launching in South Amboy, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 15 and 29.
The instructors are Cie Stroud, Dave Dawson, Sheldon Linn and Rita Snyder. All instructors have American Canoe Association kayak certifications. Cie - Level 3; Rita - Level 2, and Dave and Sheldon - Level 1. The classes will be conducted in accordance with ACA guidelines.
Fee for the course is $120. Students will be provided with a list of required and recommended gear and materials for the classes. A 14’ or longer touring boat with two bulkheads, a sprayskirt, a non-inflatable life vest, a paddle float and pump are essential. Students must have paddled enough to comfortably maintain a 3 mph pace over a 10-mile route.

Acceptance is on a first-come basis for all who qualify. Students will be billed via ClubExpress invoice after being accepted. The invoice can be paid with a PayPal account or any credit or bank card.
