The meeting was started at 7:00pm with a guest speaker.
Guest Speaker Presentation
Our guest speaker, Richard Costello, was introduced. Richard Costello is an ACA Level 4 Open Water Coastal Kayak instructor. His talk was entitled: “Why A Greenland Paddle?”.
He discussed the benefits of using a traditional Greenland paddle along with its handling and the amazing skills you can accomplish with it. His presentation included videos and discussions and several questions at the end of the presentation.
Richard hosts clinics and personal instruction on open water coastal kayaking and using and maintaining a Greenland paddle.

Pat Beltz called the general membership meeting to order at 8:01pm.

Webmaster’s Report
Dan Rempp reported someone with an Inspirion (a Dell) computer tried to hack into our email system. We determined it was one of our officers logging in.
Education Report
Approval of the Instruction and Education Committee’s 2021 Education Plan as amended.

Welcome Pack
Rita put forward the a proposal and discussion followed to send the following to each member and family.
1. Welcome letter: two versions – one geared to new members, and one geared to renewing members. The letter will include an explanation on how to read the QR Code, and how the card can be used to attract new members by wearing it on your PFD and having it available for interested non-members to scan with their phones and access our website.
2. Oval LVKCC Sticker (currently have 350)
3. Sheet of silver paddle stickers. Two or more sheets for Family memberships. (Currently have 75. They are free or of minimal cost and currently plenty are available from ACA).
4. Yet to be purchased plastic business cards with QR Code and punch hole to use optionally with string or strap to attach to a PFD A sample was shown.
(Price is $207.00 per 500 cards, plus 16.99 for one time purchase of a hole punch.)
5. Paper business card.
Cost of postage and envelopes, using 2020 membership numbers:
226 individual members x $1.35 postage and envelope = $305.10
161 family memberships x $1.55 postage and envelope = $249.55
Subtotal: $554.65
PLUS: Cost of new plastic QR code business cards = $207.00
Hole punch = $ 16.99
Total: $778.64
2021 Budget included $510 for 500 new business cards = $510.00
And $135 per 100 mailings (x 3.87 hundred mailings) = $522.45
Total Budgeted Expense: $1032.45

Instagram setup
Dan Morton reported our Instagram account is being setup. We will do a test trial. We will have a # and can post pictures even on the water.

Club trips
Reminder to send proposed club trip dates to Dan Rempp by February for Beltzville and Nockamixon Lakes. Still need to send in the LOAs.
Hospitality Chairperson
Still needed. Rita and Pat are volunteering to be on the committee..
Larry March Slalom
Dan Rempp reported: To be held in September. Still checking on liability insurance.
FEW Dam update
A year behind. Still hope to get Paul Rush as a speaker.
PA Angler’s Interview
Deadline was missed so we’ll be waiting for PA Angler magazine to get back to us.
New Business
First Aid/CPR/AED Blended Learning – Skills Class for March 27th at Lehigh Gap Nature Center Pavillon
JC reported first offered to the instructors first. We have 4 students.
Recertifications will be offered too.
This class might be offered for members later.

– 4 signed up. 3 need boats. Boat tryouts on April 11. Pat offered one.

Open Water Kayaking – Dave Dawson

Intro to Moving Water Kayaking – JC Rankin, Scott
– 4 signed up received applications. 2 requesting application Email sent to those signed on Meetup. 10 slots are open.
Discussion on the order of sending out invoices.
April 11th will be the tryout of boats for Class Participants that need to borrow equip. Pat’s house
May 22 is the long boat tryout day. Idea is to get different touring boats at Pavilion #2 at Beltzville.
Lafayette pool is not an option per Scott. Some discussion on other pools. Will be discussed offline.

Spring Trip – update by Dave Dawson: The Birds, Crabs, Kayaking Trip is to Belleplain State Park, NJ. from May 14 to 17, 2021 28 people signed up. 12 sites reserved.
Program Committee – Gery Kirkner and Sheldon Lynn — March will host a sports medicine speaker.
Hospitality Committee – Support team Bob Brunda and Rita Snyder. April Ice Breaker will be at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center pavilion. Bring your own food.
