Winter Courses at the Rodale Aquatic Center, Cedar Crest College, Allentown Pa.

ATTENTION!! ALL CLINICS ARE NOEW FILLED. IF AN OPENING OCCURS CLUB MEMBERS WILL BE INFORMED BY EMAIL.

The Lehigh Valley Kayak and Canoe Club is offering training on how to roll a white water kayak as part of the 2025 winter pool program.  These one-on-one sessions are open to anyone with a whitewater kayak who wants to learn or improve a sweep roll.  You should have a wet exit, some familiarity with a hip snap, and be comfortable underwater.  Whitewater kayak, helmet, PFD, spray skirt, and paddle are required.  We also recommend nose clips and swim goggles.

The dates and times are as follows:

Session 1: January 19 and 26
Session 2:  February 2 and 16
Session 3: February 23 and March 2

Each session will have two time slots: 5:00 to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

The cost is $60, which includes the pool fee.

This eight-week pool class is designed for anyone who wishes to learn to kayak on rivers from Class I to Class III. The course is held on weekends starting in January. Each session is four hours divided equally between classroom and the pool. No previous experience is necessary, please contact us for essential eligibility criteria. The club has some loaner equipment for students who need it.
Topics such as boat types, gear, clothing, paddle strokes, river features, knots, river safety, fitness, edging, bracing, assisted and self rescues, and rolling will be covered.

The class is intended to be followed by our Beginners Series of river trips, where students will paddle progressively more difficult rivers and creeks in the Lehigh Valley area.

Join us for a Paddle and Potluck at the Lehigh Gap Surf it up on the Lehigh ledges, from the Nature Center to Walnutport. Meet at the Lehigh Gap Boat Launch, ready to shuttle at 5PM. You must be a member of the LVKCC to go on the paddle. You will need a whitewater kayak with spray skirt, or a canoe, PFD with whistle, float bags, paddle, and helmet. The water will still be cold- dress for immersion. The potluck will be in the pavilion at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, and will start around 7:00. If your name ends in A-M bring a main dish, N-Z bring a side or dessert. The general meeting will start at 8:00 pm.
